About Hodmandod Cards

Hodmandod Cards is run by artist Luke Florio.

The card range features my own artworks and works by selected artists; at present  this includes works by my grandfather and grandmother - Adrian Ryan and Peggy Ryan.

My artwork have developed out of a life long love of drawing, painting and colour.

As children my sister, brother and I spent many an hour around the sitting room table with felt tips and colouring pencils spread out - depicting scenes from family life, drawing cartoons of well known heroes and villains and creating imaginary characters and scenarios.

The paintings of our maternal grandparents, that were all around us in the house, quietly posed questions that fascinated me then as they do today.

Since I can remember I have felt deeply moved by nature and place, especially during times of solitude.

Art at the turn of the twentieth century inspires me greatly; post impressionist and early modern works - the innovations of Paul Cezanne, the lyricism of Christopher Wood and Maurice Utrillo, the rhythms of Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, of earlier eras - the gentle tones of Piero della Francesca and the stirring landscapes of JMW Turner and John Constable.

The greetings cards are examples of my work and also of the work of my grandparents, Adrian Ryan (1920 -1998) & Peggy Ryan (1916 - 2013) - an ever present source of inspiration.
